The first meeting of Türkiye-EU Science, Research, Technology and Innovation High Level Dialogue, co-chaired by Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology and Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, was held on 15 November 2022 in Brussels. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs, Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Çetin Ali Dönmez, and President of TÜBİTAK Hasan Mandal, as well as the officials from both sides participated in the meeting. 

Cooperation on European Green Deal, Industry of the Future and EU Union Programmes were discussed in line with the agenda and following the meeting, joint press release was announced.

The second meeting, co-chaired by Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Industry and Technology and Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, was held on 25 April 2024 in İstanbul. Officials from EU side and Ministry of Industry and Technology, Directorate for EU Affairs, TÜBİTAK participated in the meeting. 

Cooperation on Science, Technology and Innovation Policies, Green and Digital Transformation of Industries, Innovation Ecosystems were discussed in line with the agenda and following the meeting, joint press release was announced.

Science, research, technology and innovation are rapidly developing areas featuring huge capacity to overcome global challenges. These areas are addressed under Chapter 25. Science and Research in the framework of EU accession process. The mentioned Chapter in which Türkiye’s alignment level is well-advanced, is the only Chapter that is provisionally closed. Regarding science, technology and innovation, Türkiye and the EU are in close cooperation in terms of Union Programmes and following up  the  EU policies and practices. Science, Research, Technology and Innovation High Level Dialogue mechanism is established in order to further enhance the cooperation on these areas and to discuss common interests and challenges.
