Translation Coordination Activities

Remaining committted to multilingualism since its foundation, the EU currently has 24 official languages which enjoy equal legal status. The EUR-Lex service (http://eur-lex.europa.eu), which provides access to EU law, covers those 24 languages and the Official Journal of the European Union is published in all official languages.  Upon Türkiye's accession to the EU, Turkish will become an official EU language.  Therefore, besides alignment with the EU acquis in the EU accession process, Türkiye will also need to produce translations of the acquis into Turkish in good time before accession, as set forth by the Negotiating Framework for Türkiye of 3 October 2005.

In addition to the translation of the EU acquis as stipulated in the law, regularly published reports which are important for Türkiye-EU relations, such as the EU Commission’s “Türkiye Report”, “the European Parliament’s Resolution on the Progress Report on Türkiye” are also translated by the Department.
