Statement by Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik on the EP Resolution
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik responded to questions by the press regarding the vote in the European Parliament (EP) on Operation Olive Branch. Minister Ömer Çelik said that the resolution passed by the EP General Assembly was very surprising and said “this is a resolution that demonstrates how distant the EP is from developments in Syria and was is happening in the field.”
Minister Ömer Çelik, who pointed out the support Türkiye provided to the Astana, Sochi and Geneva processes to ensure stability in Syria, said: “It is apparent to all who is causing the conflicts and who remain as spectators to the conflicts. Therefore, it only demonstrates the absence of vision and knowledge on this matter on behalf of the EP to adopt an approach that adds conflict to conflict for a NATO member country that is carrying out accession negotiations with the EU, all the while this terrorist organisation is attacking Türkiye.”
