Türkiye-EU High Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) Held in Brussels

The second meeting of the Türkiye-EU High Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) was held on 8 December 2017 in Brussels.

Our Ministry was represented by Undersecretary Ambassador Selim Yenel and the delegation accompanying him in the meeting, which was held in two sessions, namely the business dialogue and the economic dialogue at governmental level.

The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek and Vice President of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen. Minister of Customs and Trade Bülent Tüfenkçi, Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekçi and Commissioner Pierre Moscovici (Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs) also attended the meeting.

In the business dialogue session of the meeting, representatives of major Turkish and European business associations (TOBB, TÜSİAD, TİM, TESK, DEİK, MÜSİAD, YASED, TURKONFED, TİSK, KAGİDER, İKV, TEPAV, Eurochambers, Business Europe, UEAPME, European Services Forum) and private sector, together with the Ministers, Commissioners and representatives of the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Council of Europe Development Bank exchanged views on increasing mutual economic interactions and cooperation as well as business environment.

In the afternoon session, Ministers and Commissioners discussed the economic outlook, macroeconomic policies and structural reforms in Türkiye and the EU.

At the end of the meeting, a joint press briefing was held and a joint press release was published.

The first HLED meeting was held in İstanbul and Ankara on 25-26 April 2016. These meetings contribute to our accession process by deepening our economic and trade relations.
