Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik Evaluated the Agenda During Live Broadcast

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik evaluated the agenda during a live broadcast on A Haber news channel.

Minister Ömer Çelik evaluated matters on the agenda such as the controversial referendum of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) and the election results in Germany and responded to questions during a live broadcast on A Haber news channel.

Minister Ömer Çelik,  who expressed that the referendum in Northern Iraq would not benefit the stability of the region or the future of the Kurdish people, said that this matter was harmful not only to the will of the Kurdish people to coexist but also to that of other groups in Iraq.

Indicating that the process underway in Iraq was already fragile, Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik stated that Barzani’s initiative was destructive to the process altogether. Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik also underlined that if Kirkuk became a part of the process leading to a unilateral de facto situation in the area, this would ignite much greater conflicts. Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik said: “Barzani is undertaking an initiative to the detriment of all communities in Iraq, endangering their future and increasing current threats.”

Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik emphasized that Barzani’s recent approach would not benefit the Kurdish, Turkmen and Arab people in the region and would bring disaster to them instead.

Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik, who evaluated the general elections in Germany and indicated that he addressed the matter of radicalisation at the Informal Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers held in Estonia, also said:”How can those who say that Türkiye should not be in the EU fight against radicalisation? Every word spoken by those who say that Türkiye should not be a part of the EU supports radicalisation.”

Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik pointed out that extreme rightist rhetoric did not increase the votes of centre right parties and the use of this rhetoric in fact weakened centre right parties in Europe.
