Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik, addressed and informed the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) General Assembly regarding the scandal in the NATO manoeuvre.

Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik said that he learned about the matter in a stop in Ireland on his way to Canada with General Hulusi Akar. Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik said: “That our soldiers be withdrawn from the manoeuvre as soon as the matter became known was expressed immediately.”

Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik, who also said he wished to respond to statements on whether Türkiye would be satisfied with only an apology, also stated: “How could this disrespectful action be taken against our founding leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan? There is always a chain of command that this person answers to. We would like an investigation into this chain of command. What measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future? We indicated to NATO that we expected a strong response from it regarding the matter. This incident cannot be passed over only with an apology. We have expressed all these matters.”
