EU Unveils New Strategies for Maritime Industry and Ports
The European Commission has published the EU Industrial Maritime Strategy and the EU Ports Strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe’s maritime industry and accelerate the green and digital transition of ports on 4 March 2026.
The new strategies aim to reinforce Europe’s maritime ecosystem, increase the resilience of supply chains and support the sector’s transition towards climate neutrality, while maintaining Europe’s global competitiveness in maritime technologies.
The EU Industrial Maritime Strategy focuses on strengthening production capacity in shipbuilding, maritime equipment and marine technologies, while promoting the development of clean fuels, zero-emission vessels and digital solutions across the sector.
The EU Ports Strategy highlights the key role of European ports in the energy transition. It prioritises the modernisation of port infrastructure, the development of alternative fuel supply facilities, digitalisation and enhanced security.
Through these initiatives, the EU aims to transform ports into energy and logistics hubs, support the green transition of maritime transport and reinforce the resilience of Europe’s maritime value chain.
