Earthquake Disaster on 6 February and the EU support

 

Following the two earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, the EU announced they would support our country through different mechanisms. The International Donors’ Conference was held in Brussels on March 20, 2023, hosted by the European Commission and the Swedish Presidency of the Council of Europe. EU Member States, neighbouring countries, members of the United Nations (UN), international financial institutions and other relevant stakeholders were present. The European Union announced €1 billion of pledge to be provided to Türkiye and 400 million Euros of this pledge is stated to be provided under EU Solidarity Fund.

The magnitude of the February 6 earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş, the affected provinces, rescue activities and post-earthquake efforts are included in the publication titled “February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes – Disaster of the Century” prepared by the Directorate of Communications. TERRA report

The TERRA (Türkiye Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction Assessment) report was published in March 2023. The report was prepared in cooperation with the Presidency of Strategy and Budget and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the EU Delegation to Türkiye including the data contributions of the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC). The report, which includes all the details about the destruction and losses caused by the Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes, also includes the topics on sustainable and disaster-resistant reconstruction.
