Commission presents "A Vision for Agriculture and Food"

The European Commission has presented the Vision for Agriculture and Food, seeking to boost the agri-food sector’s competitiveness and attractiveness.

The Vision identifies its main objectives as recognizing agriculture and food as strategic sectors, strengthening competitiveness and attractiveness of the sector, and ensuring long-term growth, innovation, and societal benefits.

The Vision adopts a new approach in policymaking process, putting an emphasis on:

  1. Trust and dialogue across the entire value chain
  2. Stronger engagement with farmers, food chain operators, institutions, and civil society
  3. Addressing concerns and ideas at local and regional levels.

The Vision is composed of four priority areas with simplification of EU rules, research, innovation and digitalization as crosscutting drivers. The priority areas are as follows:

  1. Attractiveness: Making farming a viable and appealing career
  2. Competitiveness: Strengthening the sector’s position in global markets
  3. Future-proofing: Embracing innovation and sustainability for long-term resilience
  4. Connection: Valuing food and fostering fair living and working conditions in rural areas
