Commission Communication recommending %40 reduction in the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 compared to 1990 levels has been announced.
Commission Communication on the EU’s greenhouse gas target for 2040 as an intermediate target on the path to climate neutrality by 2050 has been announced on 6 February 2023. The Commission’s recommendation foresees %40 reduction in the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 compared to 1990 levels. As required in the European Climate Law, a legislative proposal is planned to be made by the next Commission, after the upcoming European elections (6-9 June 2024).
