Artificial reefs being a replica of historical artefact were submerged in Enez, Edirne on 27 November 2019 as part of the activities of the Project TREASURE of which Enez District Governorship is the beneficiary under Black Sea Basin Cross-border Cooperation (CBC) Programme. Numbered 371, the project aims at creation of an underwater museum. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı participated in the ceremony and dived with the officials.
District Governor of Enez Elif Canan Tuncer, Edirne Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Kemal Soytürk, Mayor of Enez Özkan Günenç as well as representatives of Turkish Naval Forces, Turkish Coast Guard Command, İstanbul University and Enez Port Administration participated in the ceremony.
Enez is aimed to become a center of attraction for diving tourism with the reproductions of the statues found in the archaeological excavations in Enez and the underwater museum created by placing the blocks in the form of the main gate of Enez Castle at a depth of 18 meters. Additionally, with the project, a port with an area of 1500 m2 is planned to be constructed near Enez, which is expected to become a water sports training center after the renovations, where 300 children will be trained in summer seasons.
