9 June World Accreditation Day

ACCREDITATION: DELIVERING CONFIDENCE IN CONSTRUCTION AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK)  operates  in accordance with national and international standards with national and international recognition, and has been providing accreditation services in our country for sixteen years.  With a view to increasing accreditation and quality awareness,  9th  June is celebrated as "World Accreditation Day" by International Laboratory Accreditation Co-Operation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF), to which TURKAK is a full member. The theme of this year for the World Accreditation Day is "Accreditation: Delivering Confidence in Construction and Built Environment".

Within the scope of this year’s theme, accreditation, as an instrument of quality infrastructure, will  be promoted for product safety, environment protection, public safety, establishment of innovative and effective markets, increasing public confidence in construction sector.

Specific to construction sector, accreditation is accepted as a tool used by the construction industry to support all operators, from contractors to manufacturers, from architects to civil engineers.

This year’s theme aims to facilitate an understanding that accreditation and accredited conformity assessment procedures could be tools for increasing confidence in safety, security and sustainability of constructions.

Free movement of goods is the core of the Türkiye-EU Customs Union and accreditation is an indispensable component of free movement of goods. A specific accession negotiation chapter is also dedicated to free movement of goods. Although the chapter is suspended due to political obstacles of the EU, as in other chapters, studies in this field continue with determination. TURKAK, as a full member of the European Accreditation (EA) provides the same level of services and has the same recognition with its counterparts in the EU member states. Success attained in accreditation is an important indicator that Türkiye has acquired the EU standards in this field as well.

So far, TURKAK has accredited more than 1300 conformity assessment bodies that are established in Türkiye and abroad. Owing to accreditation services provided by TURKAK, standards and quality of production have increased, contributing to increase in exports, also terminating external dependence of producers, businessmen, consumers and other relevant stakeholders in the field of conformity assessment.

Taking into consideration of theme of this year in particular, TURKAK’s services in this field underlines its active role in economic and social development of our country.
