Civil Society Sector Workshop Held in Ankara with the Participation of 150 NGO Representatives
The first of the Civil Society Sector Workshops planned to be organized within the scope of the Project entitled “Technical Assistance for Support to the Preparation and Implementation of the Türkiye Civil Society Sub-Sector Programming 2016-2017” was held on 15 February 2017 in Ankara with a high level of participation from civil society organizations.
The workshop started with the opening speeches of Gabriel Munuera Vinals, the Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye and Dr. Mehmet Cangir, the Deputy Undersecretary of Ministry for EU Affairs. In the opening speeches, the significance of civil society’s having been defined as a sector in the second term of IPA (2014-2020) and the endeavours for enhancing the capacities of civil society organizations were emphasized. Afterwards, detailed information was given to the participants by the representatives of the Ministry for EU Affairs regarding the “civil society sector” and its programming process. The morning session of the workshop ended with the presentation in which the grant opportunities the civil society organizations could benefit in the new term of IPA were explained.
In the afternoon session of the workshop, discussions were made related to the priorities of the civil society organizations and how their active participation to the civil society sector programming process could be ensured. Further to this, the participants were able to present their opinions and suggestions related to the prospective projects that will be designed to support the civil society organizations.
The workshop ended with the closing speech by Ambassador Selim Yenel, the Undersecretary of Ministry for EU Affairs. Ambassador Selim Yenel emphasized the significance of Türkiye-EU financial cooperation and told that important responsibilities fell upon the civil society organizations for more effective exploitation of the available EU funds and implementing an increased number of projects.
