[1] This guide has not been updated since January 2001. A list of relevant Court judgements between 2001 and 2005 will be provided during the Explanatory Screening meeting.
[2] Directives 2001/95/EC on general product safety and 85/374/EEC on liability for defective products will be screened under Chapter 28 – Consumer and Health Protection

- Directives 96/48/EC on the interoperability of the trans-European high-speed rail system, 96/98/EC on marine equipment, 1999/36/EC on transportable pressure equipment, 2001/16/EC on the interoperability of the trans-European conventional rail system, will be screened under Chapter 14 – Transport Policy.
- Directives 92/42/EEC on energy efficiency requirements for new hot-water boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels, 1996/57/EC on energy efficiency requirements of household electrical refrigerators, 2000/55/EC on energy efficiency requirements for ballasts for fluorescent lighting, will be screened under Chapter 15 - Energy.
- Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste will be screened under chapter 27 – Environment.
[5] Directives 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, and 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment, will be screened under Chapter 27 – Environment.
[6] Directives 75/324/EEC, 76/767/EEC, 84/525/EEC, 84/526/EEC and 84/527/EEC are Old Approach directives.

Directive 67/548/EEC on the Classification packaging and labelling of dangerous substances, Regulation (EEC) No 793/93 on the evaluation and control of the risks of existing substances, Regulation (EC) No. 304/2003 concerning the export and import of dangerous chemicals, and Directive 98/8/EC concerning the placing of biocidal products on the market will be screened under Chapter 27 - Environment.
