Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik evaluated the European Council Conclusions
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik responded to the European Council conclusions on Türkiye in his statements made over his twitter account.
Minister Ömer Çelik stated “It is not possible for us to accept these statements made in European Council conclusions on Türkiye immediately prior to the EU-Türkiye Summit to be held on 26 March in Varna. We see the EU-Türkiye Summit to be held on 26 March 2018 to be an significant opportunity to advance our relations. We expect the same positive and constructive approach from the EU. However, when solidarity takes over legality and equity, then no one can talk about legitimacy. Solidarity is meaningful only when it is legitimate.”
Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik invited the EU to be sincere and said “It is unfortunate that those who said that Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration were responsible for the failure of the Crans Montana talks held for the resolution of the Cyprus issue now make this statement. We will go to Varna with constructive understanding based on sincerity and goodwill. We expect for the EU to adopt the same understanding.”
