Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik evaluated the agenda in Paris

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik held a press conference in Paris following his meeting with the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian and French Minister for European Affairs Nathalie Loiseau.

Minister Ömer Çelik stated that Türkiye and France, an ally of Türkiye, shared a common view on many matters, in particular their stance on Bashar al-Assad, said: “We do not want to see anyone in the uniform of an ally country training the YPG.”

On the developments regarding Syria, Minister Ömer Çelik said that Türkiye was not a part of the conflict in Syria and could not be evaluated in the same manner as countries which were a part of this conflict. Stating that Türkiye was fighting against terrorism in the region, Minister Ömer Çelik pointed out that Türkiye had not been able to obtain support from its allies while rockets were being launched into the city of Kilis.

Referring to the French soldiers, Minister Ömer Çelik said “If these soldiers are providing training for the PYD/YPG, we will perceive this as providing support to the terrorist organisation.”
