Civil Society Dialogue between the EU and Turkey - Media Grant Scheme

CIVIL SOCIETY DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE EU AND TURKEY III

 MEDIA GRANT SCHEME

Civil Society Dialogue Programme between the European Union and Turkey is a programme bringing together civil society organisations from Turkey and the EU around common topics, to exchangeknowledge and experience, and to build a sustained conversation between the organisations.

The Programme was co-funded by the EU and the Republic of Turkey under the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA). The Ministry for European Union Affairs was the responsible institution for the technical implementation of the programme.

As a component of the Civil Society Dialogue Programme, the “Media Grant Scheme” targets to improve the capacities of the actors in the media sector and develop sustainable dialogue between the actors in Turkey and in the EU. Call for proposal for the programme was published on May 20, 2013 and the deadline for the application was on July 22, 2013.

Specific Objectives of the Programme:

  • To enhance networking, joint actions and peer-learning between Turkish-EU media and media-related CSOs,
  • To share good practices regarding EU issues, to promote innovative initiatives and media productions between Turkish-EU media and media-related CSOs on EU matters.

 

Budget, Grants Awarded and Duration of the Programme

Under the scope of “Media” Programme 16 projects aiming to improve knowledge and create sustainable dialogue with their counterparts are granted to the media institutions and CSOs in the field of media, which play an efficient role in raising awareness of public regarding the benefits of Turkey’s EU membership to our country and EU. The total amount of the grant was approximately 2.2 million Euros. Implementation period of the granted projects varied between 10-15 months.

Priority Areas of the Programme

1) Media Organisations

  • Improving mutual knowledge and understanding in Turkey and the EU
  • Providing information on related EU policies
  • Awareness and technical capacity building in the preparation and development of qualitative productions
  • Encouraging open public debates
  • Sustainable partnerships and joint productions ensuring civil society dialogue

2) CSOs in the Field of Media

  • Sharing good practices in media sector
  • Increasing professional skills
  • Networking among CSOs and other related institutions
  • Providing information about Turkish and European societies regarding meeting EU standards in each side
