Ministry for EU Affairs Translation Platform, 9 June 2012

The content and importance of translation services have become more significant with the EU accession process and Turkey's increasing role in international relations.  In view of Turkey's obligation to translate the EU acquis into Turkish and to train expert translators, the Ministry for EU Affairs, which carries out the preparatory work for Turkey's EU membership, organized the "Translation Platform" in Istanbul on 9 June 2012, with the participation of the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis. The aim of the platform was to set forth the needs and problems of the translation sector, with special reference to universities, and to discuss possible solutions.

Participants in the platform included Directors of Translation and Interpretation Departments from public institutions, academicians, representatives of the civil society organizations working in the field of translation and interpretation (Association of Translation, Translators' Professional Association, Turkish Translator's Association,Association of All Translation Companies, Association of Translation Companies, Conference Interpreters Association of Turkey), and representatives from the private and public sector.
