European Mobility Week Events Press Release

The "European Mobility Week" is currently being celebrated in Türkiye through a number of events.  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı will make the opening speech and participate in the cycling tour as a part of the "Car-Free Day" to be carried out on 22 September 2018 in the framework of the European Mobility Week. As a part of this event held jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs, Metropolitan Municipality of Ankara, Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye and the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, 7th Street in Bahçelievler will be closed to traffic from 10:00 to 15:00 and open only to pedestrians and cyclists.

In addition to the cycling tour, cycling training and races, activities for children and performances by street artists will be organised as a part of the "Car-Free Day" event held in the scope of the European Mobility Week. There will also be information points during the event regarding the Erasmus+ Programme and the EU funds, which are provided to civil society organisations.

This year, 2627 cities in 51 countries all over the world are participating in the European Mobility Week, which has been celebrated between 15-22 September since 2002 to promote the limitation of motorised vehicle traffic and use of sustainable forms of transportation instead.

In Türkiye, 24 municipalities, in particular those of metropols such as Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir, Adana, Gaziantep, Konya and Antalya, are organising events in the scope of the European Mobility Week. The events organized within the framework of the Week aim to increase the complementary use of different transport modes (multi-modality) for persons and goods in intra-city transport and to raise awareness within the scope of the "Mix and Move!" slogan, which has been selected as this year's theme for the European Mobility Week.

All our citizens who wish to walk with their children and ride bicycles on the road closed to motorised traffic and to participate in many colourful activities held for the European Mobility Week are invited to the events to be held at 7th Street in Bahçelievler on 22 September 2018.

Respectfully announced to the distinguished members of the Press.
