EU Minister Ömer Çelik’s remarks on the terrorist attacks in Istanbul
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik condemned the terrorist attacks on Istanbul Police Department and AK Party Istanbul Office.
Sharing his views on his Twitter account, EU Minister Ömer Çelik stated that the primary requirement to protect democracy is fighting with terrorism.
Minister Ömer Çelik’s statement reads as follows:
“I condemn the terrorist attacks on Istanbul Police Department and Ak Party Istanbul Office in the strongest possible terms. While terror targets our people and security services, it also targets politics and tries to influence decision making mechanisms. Terror is ideologically nourished by placing itself in between the society and the politics. Thus, it tries to seize society's right to administer. Strong bonds between society and politics are the biggest barriers terror can't overcome. Politics relying on society is our greatest foundation. Terror wishes to infiltrate into and influence Türkiye's mind by its abhorrent actions. In the past terror had the ability to change Türkiye's agenda with a single action. Fighting terror is indispensable for our security, but not limited to this. It is also the primary requirement to protect our democracy. Türkiye, with its vast experience, sees through the ideological and political agenda behind terror. Terror cannot have an influence on Türkiye.”
