The Nature Restoration Law has been approved by the plenary session of the European Parliament.
The Nature Restoration Law, adopted by the European Commission on June 22, 2022, has been approved by the plenary session of the European Parliament on February 27, 2024, and following formal approval by the EU Council, it will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will enter into force.
The said Law aims to restore ecosystems, habitats, species, forests, agricultural areas, and urban ecosystems in the EU's terrestrial and marine areas, contribute to achieving the EU's climate objectives, and fulfill international commitments.
Following the enactment of the Law, it is expected that within 2 years, EU countries will submit their National Restoration Plans to the European Commission outlining how they will achieve the specified targets. Progress will also be monitored and reported, with the European Environment Agency preparing regular technical reports on progress toward the targets. Additionally, the Commission will report to the European Parliament and the Council on the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law.
