Acting Undersecretary Ambassador Selim Yenel attended the 30th Year Conference of the Erasmus + Programme entitled “From Erasmus to Erasmus+: A Story of 30 Years” on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Erasmus + Programme on 24 May 2017.

Rectors and representatives from universities of EU countries and Türkiye attended the conference co-organised by the Ministry for EU Affairs, Delegation of the EU to Türkiye, Council of Higher Education and Turkish National Agency. EU Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions also participated to the event.

Ministry for EU Affairs Acting Undersecretary Ambassador Selim Yenel, President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. M.A. Yekta Saraç and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye Ambassador Christian Berger made the opening speeches of the forum bringing together university rectors, students across Europe, and the representatives of Embassies.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Yenel stated that Erasmus Programme, which has grown and developed since 1987, is a branded initiative of the European Union. Ambassador Yenel also underlined that thanks to the Programme tolerance and intercultural understanding increased, prejudices were overcome through the relationships established between people with different cultures. He underlined that promotion of cooperation in higher education that is the locus of science and education is key for social, economic and cultural development.
